In celebration of Earth Day, the Buddha’s Light International Association (BLIA) Los Angeles Chapter brought environmental stewardship and education together in a heartwarming initiative. On April 25, President Echo Tsai, Secretary General Lynn Quach, and Directors Shou-jen Kuo and Xuejian Qian delivered 250 potted succulents to two elementary schools in the Walnut Valley Unified School District—CJ Morris Elementary and Vejar Elementary. The succulents were distributed to six fifth-grade classes, reaching a total of 250 students and teachers.
The donation, blending fun with education, was met with enthusiastic smiles and curiosity from the students. Each plant came decorated with an adorable sticker featuring the Three Acts of Goodness: “Do good deeds, speak good words, think good thoughts.”
Children eagerly asked how to care for their plants and wanted to learn more about the meaning behind the Three Acts. Secretary General Lynn Quach warmly explained not only the basics of environmental care but also shared the mission behind Fo Guang Shan’s Three Acts of Goodness Movement—planting seeds of kindness and awareness from a young age.
To ensure the best planting experience, BLIA Los Angeles members had been preparing the succulents for over a month. They carefully drilled drainage holes at the bottom of each pot to prevent overwatering and decorated the pots with cute bee stickers, adding a playful, child-friendly touch.
President Echo Tsai emphasized that this effort reflects Venerable Master Hsing Yun’s teachings on “Environmental and Spiritual Preservation” and the spirit of “Coexistence and Coprosperity.”
“Caring for the Earth begins with each of us,” President Tsai said. “Every small act of mindfulness brings a little more beauty into the world.”
Looking ahead, BLIA Los Angeles announced plans to extend the initiative next week by delivering another 140 potted succulents to a third elementary school—continuing to spread green hope and environmental consciousness in young hearts across the community.
