On the afternoon of June 26, Xiang Yun Temple hosted the fourth session of this month’s One Book a Month reading group. Ten participants gathered to read Chapter Four, Compassion Among People, from Teaching with a Wise Heart, Caring for All Sentient Beings, a book written by Venerable Huichuan. The session opened with an introduction by Venerable Jueji, who emphasized the book's relevance to contemporary society and its worthiness of deep reflection.
Participants took turns sharing their insights, engaging in discussions on social issues and exchanging sparks of wisdom. Sister Shí Cuìyù urged practitioners to engage with the broader community and shared outcomes from the “Three Acts of Goodness” Children’s Kung Fu Summer Camp. Sister Biyu stressed the importance of having clear goals for activities. Venerable Yongjia used everyday stories to remind everyone of the potential harm caused by unchecked attachment and anger. In response to topics like discrimination and school bullying, the sisters called for learning from the Buddha’s compassion and wisdom, while advocating greater attention to children’s mental well-being.
The session lasted for an hour and a half and concluded smoothly. It was announced that next month’s selection will be One Word Zen by Venerable Yikong.
