On November 1, the English Subchapter of the Buddha’s Light International Association (BLIA) Austin Chapter held a fall outdoor picnic at Rosemary Denny Park. Monastics and lay Buddhists from Xiangyun Temple joined fifty BLIA members, gathering together to enjoy nature amidst the fragrance of vegetarian dishes and tea, experiencing the joy of Dharma in both movement and stillness.

The event began with Venerable Jueji, the temple supervisor, leading everyone in chanting the Four-Line Verse of Fo Guang, praying for the growth of Bodhi mind. English Subchapter officer Urraca coordinated with the volunteer team to arrange the venue and prepare vegetarian meals, demonstrating strong teamwork. Venerables Yisong, Jueji, and Yongjia sat and engaged warmly with participants, sharing delicious food in a harmonious atmosphere.

A birthday celebration was held for the November celebrants, filling the gathering with laughter and song. Under the guidance of Philip and Mike, the youth group engaged in badminton, pickleball, and basketball activities, bringing plenty of lively energy.

Officer Karina expressed that preparing vegetarian meals is a form of practice. Chapter President Jia-Ching Chen pointed out that outdoor fellowship strengthens bonds and allows everyone to experience the joy of collective cultivation. Youth representatives Alex and Claire shared that participating in such activities is far more beneficial to physical and mental well-being than spending time online.

The event concluded with blessings from the monastics, wishing everyone safety and health. Filled with gratitude and joy, all BLIA members returned home with hearts full of Dharma delight.
