前往支持Mindfulness in Learning and Motion: Hsi Fang Temple Nurtures Young Hearts
Fo Guang Shan Hsi Fang Temple
January 16, 2026
Hsi Fang Temple recently launched its Buddhism for Kids and Mindful Movement programs, welcoming approximately 20 children to the first session and marking a joyful beginning to the new learning season.
The Buddhism for Kids classes are held on Saturdays from 2:00–3:00 pm throughout January and February, offering age-appropriate teachings in Buddhism, mindfulness, and the Three Acts of Goodness—do good deeds, speak good words, and think good thoughts. Through storytelling, singing, art, prayer, and sharing, children are guided to practice compassion and kindness in daily life.
Three class levels are offered. The ages 3–6 class is led by Ms. Christina, a long-term volunteer at Hsi Fang Temple and an experienced immersion school teacher who brings over a decade of Buddhist practice into her teaching. The ages 7–10 class is taught by Ms. Ileana, a credentialed elementary school teacher and active temple volunteer, who views Buddhist community life as a meaningful way to cultivate kindness. The ages 11 and above class is guided by Mr. Joe, a credentialed substitute teacher and new volunteer, who focuses on the Buddha’s life, Fo Guang Shan practices, and applying compassion and mindfulness in everyday living.
Following the Buddhism for Kids program, the Mindful Movement and Dance class takes place from 3:00–4:00 pm for children ages 6–11. Led by Coach Lesley, a professionally trained dance educator, the class integrates mindful body awareness with creative movement. Participants will prepare for a community performance scheduled for February 15, 2026, fostering confidence, presence, and joyful expression through dance.
Together, these programs nurture wisdom, compassion, and holistic growth in a supportive temple environment.
