Fo Guang Shan Denver Buddhist Center
March 8, 2026

On March 3, 2026, the Fo Guang Shan Denver Buddhist Center held its annual Lantern Festival Blessing Service, bringing the community together for a festive celebration that blended traditional cultural performances with a heartfelt tribute to the late Venerable Master Hsing Yun, founder of Fo Guang Shan.

The event showcased a wide variety of performances, including traditional lion dances and a festive “Welcoming of the God of Wealth” presented by local Vietnamese youth groups. One of the highlights of the program was Hong Yi-Xiu, principal of the Colorado Chinese School, who captivated the audience with an energetic portrayal of Nezha, the Third Prince. The celebration also featured Chinese folk dance performances by Shen Bao-Qing and the Denver Academy of Arts, as well as a creative fashion show organized by the Buddha’s Light International Association (BLIA) Young Adult Division (YAD).

Before the festivities began, participants honored the spirit of Humanistic Buddhism by gathering to hand-roll large Yangzhou-style glutinous rice balls, known as "tang yuan". Under the guidance of Venerables Yung Ling and Man Kuan, volunteers prepared ten varieties of naturally flavored rice balls, symbolizing unity, reunion, and completeness.

“The act of kneading the dough mirrors the process of spiritual cultivation,” Venerable Yung Ling explained. “It represents smoothing away our rough edges and transforming scattered thoughts into something wholesome and nourishing.”

The celebration also provided an opportunity to recognize dedication and welcome new leadership. Certificates were given to newly elected BLIA cadres and to 60 long-serving volunteers in appreciation of their commitment to the spirit of “bringing joy to others.” Newly appointed officers were presented with the commemorative book Vast and Boundless Gratitude: The Compassion and Vows of Venerable Master Hsing Yun, reaffirming their commitment to carrying forward the Master’s mission in the Rocky Mountain region.

The Denver Buddhist Center continues to serve as a thriving center for cultural exchange and spiritual development, nurturing harmony, compassion, and community engagement throughout the Colorado region.
