Hsi Fang Temple Celebrates the Lunar New Year, Connecting with the Community

To celebrate the Lunar New Year, Fo Guang Shan Hsi Fang Temple had the festival on Feb. 15th with lion dance, children, and traditional performances. Approximately 200 neighbors, volunteers, families, and BLIA members attended.
The Southern Sea lion dance group run by the students from the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) energized the crowd with the resounding beats of drums and gongs. Volunteer Ken, delighted attendees by portraying the God of Fortune and spreading festive cheer. Students from Xing Jian Dance Academy delivered professional and captivating dance performances, while the San Diego Martial Arts Center impressed the audience with powerful kung fu demonstrations, earning continuous applause. Gu Zheng Studio presented classical Chinese music, both ensemble and solo pieces, enchanting listeners with graceful melodies.
A highlight of the program was a fan dance performed by four BLIA members, whose performance rivaled that of professionals. The Hsi Fang Temple Three Acts of Goodness Children’s Dance Class concluded the celebration with a lively group dance, winning enthusiastic applause.
For some local residents, this was their first time attending a New Year celebration at Hsi Fang Temple. One family, with parents and their elementary school-aged daughter, sat attentively with joyful expressions, fully immersed in the traditions and festive spirit of Chinese culture.
Through this New Year celebration, the BLIA, San Diego Chapter and Hsi Fang Temple strengthened community ties and welcomed more people to step into the temple.
