BLIA World Headquarters UN NGO Office Director, Ven. You Lin, and Zhang Hui participate in the Green Zone activities of COP29, hosts by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) on November 19, 2024. The Green Zone, with over 50 pavilions, serves as a platform for initiatives and discussions on interdisciplinary sustainable development and climate action. It aims to enhance the participation of youth, women, and local communities in advancing climate solutions. Today's conference theme is "Water, Food, and Agriculture." The founder of Fo Guang Shan, Venerable Master Hsing Yun, has long advocated the concepts of "environmental and spiritual preservation ", emphasizing the purification of thoughts, ideas, language, and intentions. Among the fifteen themed seminars held today, topics include "The Power of Mind" "Fighting for International Nautical Species" and discussions on climate and environmental issues in the Republic of Poland. These discussions explore ways to create high-quality energy solutions for the people, the environment, and the economy.

One highlight closely align with Venerable Master Hsing Yun's philosophy is the seminar titled "The Power of Mind" presented by Alexander Pohl, founder of Be. Human. Nature, at the Extreme Hangout. This session attracted over 20 young participants from various countries. Pohl, a certified Wim Hof Method instructor and expert in environmental sustainability, shares his research on the power of the mind. Unlike the common focus on technological and humanistic solutions to worsening climate challenges, Alexander guides attendees on maintaining mental health under the pressures of a harsh environment. He emphasizes the importance of "letting go" and practicing mindfulness through retreat and meditation to stay focused on the present moment, unaffected by uncontrollable external circumstances. Alexander’s personal lifestyle also reflects this philosophy, as he has relocated to a remote, tranquil natural environment.

Zhang Hui praises Alexander’s approach and noted its resonance with Buddhist practices. She states that learning to "let go" does not mean adopting a passive mindset but instead strengthening psychological resilience through meditation and retreat, enabling individuals to contribute more effectively to environmental protection. She concludes that focusing on mental sustainability enhances environmental sustainability efforts.

After the seminar, Venerable Youlin engages in a discussion with Alexander and invites him to attend IBPS’s upcoming presentation on November 21 in the Blue Zone, focusing on Master Hsing Yun’s concepts of "Environmental and Mental Sustainability." Venerable Youlin also extends an invitation for Alexander to visit the Fo Guang Shan New York temple during his next trip to the city. Alexander expresses his gratitude, noting that much of his methodology draws inspiration from Buddhist principles. He shares his enthusiasm for visiting the temple one day to deepen his understanding and practice of meditation.
