On January 15, 2025, Fo Guang Shan Temple of Toronto and the Buddha’s Light International Association (BLIA) Toronto Chapter held a press conference to announce their Lunar New Year celebrations, themed "Keep Going, the Future is Bright." This year’s events aim to inspire hope and unity as the community welcomes the Year of the Snake. Beginning January 26, the festivities will feature prayer ceremonies, cultural performances, interactive experiences, and specialty booths blending tradition with innovation.
Abbess Venerable Chueh Fan and BLIA Toronto President Mabel Lam co-hosted the event, joined by Vice President Rachel Fan. Venerable Chueh Fan highlighted the vision of Venerable Master Hsing Yun, emphasizing Humanistic Buddhism’s role in promoting multicultural exchange and offering wisdom and warmth. The theme encourages courage and optimism, reminding everyone to embrace a brighter future together.
Highlights of the celebrations include traditional ceremonies like the Chinese New Year’s Eve Blessing Dharma Service, Lighting of the New Year Incense, Striking of the Peace Bell, and the Homage to Thousand Buddha Dharma Service, all aimed at spreading peace and joy. Adding a modern twist, the "Journey to the Buddha Land" AI animation experience will let attendees transform into animated characters for an engaging and interactive activity. Eight specialty booths will showcase festive flowers, local snacks, cultural crafts, and Year of the Snake souvenirs.
President Mabel Lam stressed the event’s importance in preserving Chinese cultural heritage and fostering community harmony. She expressed gratitude for the media’s support and invited everyone to join, noting how the celebrations reflect the values of compassion, joy, and unity central to Humanistic Buddhism.
The press conference attracted representatives from 11 local media outlets, including OMNI Television and Fairchild TV, with coverage scheduled to reach a broad audience. Attendees had the chance to experience the AI animation journey, creating excitement for the upcoming festivities.
