The interior decorations of the shrine and the offerings, other than the Ten Offerings in Buddhism （incenses, flowers, lamps, perfume, fruits, tea, foods, jewels, pearls, and clothing）, also include big bell and drum, or banners hung on either side. Generally, the decorations inside the shrine, especially on the altar , must not be overly crowded but be kept tidy and clean. Therefore, other than a pair of lamps, three sticks of incense, a vase of flowers, four plates of fruits, and three cups of tea offering, there should not be extra objects on the altar.
It is not even necessary to have fresh flowers everyday: for one thing, to save the expenses, and for another, to prevent the withered flowers from staining the altar. Also, there should not be too many sticks of incense in the incense burner. The best way is to only keep three sticks of incense in it and let the smoke permeate the shrine to reveal a tranquil and peaceful scene.
In addition, the Buddha statue shall not be too big so that when people gaze at the statue, they can feel as if the Buddha is amongst the clouds. Thus the majestic and grandeur of the Buddha is more deeply felt, and greater respect and admiration of the Buddha arises within them.
In addition, the lighting of the shrine should be appropriate and the surrounding kept quiet and clean, where no talking, clamour, lying around or eating should be allowed. In conclusion, the solemnity, tranquility, and peacefulness of the Main Shrine should be maintained so that when one enters the shrine, sincerity and admiration of the Buddha will arise, and even praise from the bottom of one s heart:
In the heaven above and earth below, none is like the Buddha,It is the same in the worlds of the ten directions;Of all that I have seen in the entire world,None can be compared to the Buddha.
