文／張瑞棋你有注意到阿根廷的國名Argentina和銀的化學元素名稱Argentum很像嗎？沒錯，銀的拉丁文正是阿根廷國名的由來。尋寶探險 白銀之河 這個名稱要從烏拉圭與阿根廷交界的一條大河說起。1510年代，葡萄牙和西班牙的探險家從這裡登陸，聽當地土著說內陸有一座銀山，便將這傳言帶回歐洲。1526年，威尼斯人卡伯特（Sebastian Cabot）率領西班牙船隊到此尋找銀山，雖然沒有找到，但他帶回和當地土著交易而來的銀飾，吸引更多探險隊前來，從此這條河便被稱為「白銀之河」（Río de la Plata），或是音譯為「拉普拉他河」。銀字根源 各有拼寫Plata就是西班牙語中的銀，但義大利文的銀源自拉丁文，叫Argentina，因此來自威尼斯與熱內亞的船隊與商人則以Argentina稱呼拉普拉他河這個區域。1530年代開始，西班牙以布宜諾斯艾利斯為中心，建立殖民地。一開始這一帶的殖民地都隸屬於秘魯總督轄區，直到1776年才獨立出來，升格為「拉普拉他河總督轄區」（包括現在的阿根廷、玻利維亞、烏拉圭、巴拉圭和巴西）。1810年，拿破崙入侵西班牙，罷黜國王，拉普拉他河總督轄區人民趁勢起義，最後在1816年7月9日成立「拉普拉他聯合省」，宣告獨立；這一天也成為阿根廷的獨立紀念日。
