【本報綜合外電報導】台灣在中美洲的友邦瓜地馬拉二十五日將舉行總統大選。目前民調支持率前二名總統候選人都明確表態支持與台灣維持邦交。日本《經濟新聞》指出，南美洲巴拉圭總統大選今年四月底甫選出重視台灣的候選人，若中美洲瓜地馬拉大選也選出親台派總統，中國大陸在中南美洲挖走台灣邦交國的骨牌效應可能就此止住。

ＣＩＤ蓋洛普民調公司五月公布的民調結果顯示，中間偏左的「團結希望黨」（Unity of Hope，ＵＮＥ）的候選人、六十七歲前第一夫人托瑞斯（Sandra Torres）擁有百分之二十三支持率，居第一。次為中間偏右Cabal黨總統候選人、七十二歲穆萊（Edmond Mulet）擁有百分之二十一的支持率。
