【本報綜合外電報導】《華爾街日報》日前率先報導，探索鐵達尼號殘骸的觀光潛水器「泰坦號」十八日失聯後不久，美國海軍就偵測到爆炸聲，但不確定是否來自泰坦號。海軍立即將資訊告知美國海岸防衛隊搜救指揮官，因此縮小搜索範圍，最終在二十二日找到潛水器殘骸。但海軍如何偵測到爆炸聲，則被視為美國最高機密，解密可能要過很久。

當時披露該消息予《華爾街日報》的美國海軍官員，不願透露海軍如何偵測到爆炸聲。該報二十五日進一步報導，偵測到爆炸聲，可能是在冷戰期間建立的極機密海底偵察系統，稱為「聲波監聽系統」（SOSUS），用於追蹤蘇聯潛艦。

美國政府將海軍的先進聲波科技視為最高機密，這些科技使海軍得以聽到敵人在幾千英尺深海底的動靜。美國在冷戰時，對能夠發射核武的蘇聯潛艦十分懼怕，促使海軍發展海底偵察能力。當前美中緊張關係又提醒美方這種系統的重要性。
