【本報綜合外電報導】曾經瀕死的人通常會記得一些奇妙的經驗：隧道盡頭的光線、離開軀體飄浮起來、遇見已逝親人，眼前閃過人生跑馬燈等。法新社報導，來自不同文化背景的當事人敘述的故事出現許多共同點，這可能意味著存在一種科學家尚未解密的生物機制。根據美國《國家科學院學報》（Proceedings of the National Academy of Science）1日刊登的新論文，密西根大學研究員在兩名瀕死患者身上，發現與意識相關的大腦活動有驟增跡象。論文的第一作者波爾吉金（Jimo Borjigin）告訴法新社，這不是第一篇研究相關議題的論文，但其不同之處在於它比過去的研究更詳盡。研究團隊檢視4名在接受腦電波監控之際死於心臟驟停的患者紀錄，其中2名患者在呼吸器被拔除後，出現心率加快、伽瑪頻率（gamma frequency）腦波激增的現象，而伽瑪頻率是最快速的大腦活動，與意識有關。先前的研究也曾發現，有些人會在瀕死之際出現伽瑪波激增現象。密西根大學的論文繼續深入檢視大腦哪些部位出現活動增加的現象，結果發現「後皮質熱區」有動靜，這個部位由顳葉、頂葉、枕葉組成，與意識變化有關。波爾吉金說：「如果大腦這個部位亮起，代表患者看到一些東西，可以聽見聲音，身體可能也有感覺。」她還說這個部位「亮到極點」。
