除役19年 福衛1號重返大氣層

【本報台北訊】台灣首枚人造衛星「福爾摩沙衛星一號」已除役十九年，終於在今年五月二十二日重返大氣層。由於衛星若要落地，至少要千公斤級以上，但福衛一號屬於小型衛星，總重量僅四百零一公斤，國家太空中心表示，福衛一號重返地球時已在大氣層燃燒殆盡，沒留下任何碎片。

福衛一號是科學實驗衛星，一九九九年一月二十七日搭乘雅典娜一號（ATHENA-1/LMLV 1）火箭從美國卡納維爾角升空，運行於六百公里高的軌道。身上有三種科學儀器，可提供無線電通訊的重要訊息，也為海洋綠藻分布、沙塵暴觀測、水溫等研究領域帶來豐富資料。福衛一號直到二○○四年六月因衛星電力耗盡除役，從此與地面失去聯繫，也無法控制姿態、調整軌道。
