郊外或是公園，經常可見到開著圓形小黃花，直徑約2公分長，成簇生長的野花，璀璨絢麗，格外醒目引人注意。其外貌如鵝喜愛啄食的鵝仔菜（劍菜類），卻是袖珍型，民間有人甘脆稱它鵝仔菜，又稱兔仔菜、小金英。

鄉下地方，許多老人家將小金英當作解熱退火的藥材，到郊野採摘一大把小金英，用水清洗後，放進滾開水中煮熟，倒入杯裡當水喝。有點苦味，功效佳；對肝助益良多。

素食者將它作為野菜來吃，嘗過者津津樂道，尤其是那淡淡苦中帶甘的味道，教人難以忘懷。料理方法很簡易，採摘小金英，洗滌乾淨後，用滾水稍微汆燙後，撈起來，加一點調味料炒來吃，吃了還想再吃。

據農業專家說；小金英能抑制地下線蟲成長。所以，在田裡，或花園；見到小金英，不要隨意摘除。線蟲危害作物成長，消滅不易，有此天敵是農民之福。
